2023 A YEAR IN REVIEW from Kwilty Pleasures

2023 another year another quilt...well ok a lot of quilts and other fiber inspired projects

I finished the Churning 14 top but didn’t ' really like it.
I donated it to charity, knowing it will find a new home.

I made this Infinite Hearts quilt for me
but my Son loved it and it now lives with him!

Charley Harper Winter Birds flew into my nest!

Immediately followed by a GROVE of Charley Harper scrappy birch trees.

As spring rolled into view...
sew did these kitchen table toppers.

This is Picnic by Cluck Cluck Sew

BAG IT UP! from Kwilty Pleasures

I started with a pile of ideas in the form of fabrics hat will become bags.

I like to pull fabrics and patterns and work thru the bags in my
own time.  I cut many out in one day, add batting and quilt another day,
add zippers another day and sew on!

This was a tiny zipper pouch I made for my niece Gemma.

Too cute!

I have lots of novelty prints for yarn / knitting.

And I finished 3 zippered project bags.

And there was fabric for a fun Christmas zipper bag.

Love this one!

I have had gnome fabrics ...

x & + from Kwilty Pleasures

This quilt has been on my to do list for many years.
There's something about the X and + design that intrigues me.

When I saw this version by Zen Chic...this was it!

I had Zen Chic 'White Christmas" fabrics in my stash
for many years and couldn't decide
what it should be...this was it!

I added some green FQs to the "White Christmas"
FQ bundle to get the vibe I wanted.

I love the block trays and stacked up
the pieces that would make the cut!

Sewing began and more
stacking of the block units happened ...

WYNDJAMMER RED! from Kwilty Pleasures

There really is a Wyndjammer Red fox that we
love to see when visiting Ocean Isle Beach, NC.
Our condo rental is The Windjammer and the local
red fox always visits and beg for scraps.

This is my second Laura Heine collage quilt.
Frieda Fox is the pattern name.
I had lots of fabrics to use for the collage technique.

First step is to draw an outline to use as a foundation;
for all the collage fused pieces.

After all the pieces are fused with Steam a Seam Light
I cut into usable pieces
and filling in the puzzle pieces ...

X and + QUILT from Kwilty Pleasures

I love all things Zen Chic.
I have had the inkling to make the x and + quilt forever!
I have also had a bundle of Zen Chic ‘White Christmas’ fabric forever!
It’s got a bit of metallic in it
Sew this is gonna be gorgeous!

My original intent was to make ‘Those Trees’ quilt by Zen Chic.
My friend made it and it is lovely.
But for whatever reason…I just couldn’t cut into the bundle.

And so it sat until this pattern caught my eye!
I love the green in the mix.  Still a Christmas color.

So ...

JUST GEOFABULOUS from Kwilty Pleasures

Maybe you don’t know Maude Asbury?
Maybe you should?
She hides deep in my stash.
But sometimes her beautiful colors and designs
jump out and screams
“CUT ME! SEW ME! MAKE ME MORE BEAUTIFUL!
I am just a stack of fabrics
sitting here on the shelf, trying to be seen!
I deserve better!”

Well, who can argue with that?
This bundle was purchased from
Rainbows End LQS, Dunedin FL
many years ago.
These geometric prints are indeed…
GEOFABULOUS!

I think they will be perfect for
the Picnic Quilt
ByRuby Star Society.
The free pattern was part of a

GROWING BIRCH TREES from Kwilty Pleasures

How does one grow a scrappy grove of birch trees?

It’s fairly easy and a wonderful way to use scraps!
Yes SCRAPS!
I decided to use my tiny Charley Harper scraps.
I added in other scraps that read as solids and
Played will with the CH fabric colors.
After making 3 larger quilts with his fabric…
I had plenty!

Maybe I didn’t need the pattern and could have emulated the design but
Supporting our designers is sew important.
I love Amy Smart’s patterns and a fun fav is
“Birch Trees”

You can find her pattern here

CHRISTMAS PICNIC from Kwilty Pleasures

NOT everything is a PICNIC
But February 2023 found Kim Hensley and I leading a
PICNIN QUILT SewAlong over on Instagram.

This pattern by Sew Mama Sew is EPIC!
It's ONE block, built with several units, repeated over and over!
Many sizes and many fabric options.

When I saw this Christmas s version I absolutely LOVED it!
I had lots of big Christmas Scraps that could work for it!
Now Kim, found the fabrics here and bought them.
AND she is making 2 for the SewAlong.

I pulled my Basic Grey  Hustle and Bustle scraps!
And found a couple ...

12 CHARLEY HARPER BIRDS WERE PLELNTY! from Kwilty Pleasures

Remember the 20 block CH Winter bird top.
Well I decided I wanted to make it a bit smaller.
WHY?  Many reasons

I am having a solo quilt show later this year
at Inniswood Gardens. and I want to make this a wallhanging.
I can quilt a smaller size a bit easter.
I will probably sell this one.

Sew 12 Blocks of CH Winter Birds seems plenty.
And I was lucky to get this pic with a snow fall.
Ohio did not have too much snow this year, not complaining.

You can see here I set my Bernina 740 to ...

PLAIDISH 2 from Kwilty Pleasures

Being a Scottish Highlander of Clan Gordon
my heart belongs to all things Plaidish.
My heart also belongs to THE Ohio State Buckeyes.

Sew I am combining the two to make
Erica Jackman's Plaidish II

@kitchentablequilting had me crushing so hard
on her first Plaidish, I made two!

A true scrappy version!

A 3 color version using all Christmas prints.

But back to Plaidish II

I pulled all the OSU fabrics I had in my stash,
Most were scraps, which lend themselves to her Plaidish patterns.

There are only 3 blocks and they chain piece quickly.
The cutting is ...

XYLLIAN HARTZ FINISH from Kwilty Pleasures

What began as a bunch of leftover pink strips
gifted to me by Kim Hensley...
became a fun project and big surprise for me
at the end.

Sometimes the Heart(s) will surprise you!

I sent this pic to my son, Eric to show him what I was working on.
He immediately said, if I had not promised this to anyone...
HE WANTED IT!

Eric is very artistic and musically inclined.
He plays guitar, drums, and has a private radio station where
He uploads eclectic music choices
He also loves pinks and purple colors!

His musical entity name is Xyllian ...

MY HEART or NOT? from Kwilty Pleasures

I needed a quilt for February to hang in my hallway.
I though maybe a heart quilt.

My friend Kim had made the Infinite Hearts quilt
and I kinda liked it.

She gave me lots of leftover strips from her quilt.
Then I pulled fabrics from my scraps and stash.

And the sewing began.

Lots of chain piecing...
making one side of the heart at a time.

This was all happening around Christmas
and Santa was watching over me!

He helped me pick the backing and binding.
Two hoarded prints from Amy Butler's LOVE fabric line.

And the hearts ...

2023 QUILTING DREAMS from Kwilty Pleasures

OK its February...but that doesn't stop
a gal from dreaming of making lots of pretty quilts.

My dreams in 2023 began with this Infinite Hearts Quilt.
I can tell you that this is finished and will post about it later.

Fall Breeze is hopeful for an autumn finish!
I don't have it cut yet, sew we will see.
Lots of HST in this beauty.

This PICNIC top will be a  February finish.

AVALON IS GONNA BE AMAZING from Kwilty Pleasures

Did you ever find a quilt on PINTEREST
and just know you had to make it.
BUT where the heck can I find the pattern?

This one was...
the Avalon pattern by Elizabeth Harman and Birch Fabrics.

I couldn't believe a magazine that old (October, 2011)
actually had a modern design quilt in it.

It was a pattern in a magazine and I had
to purchase the magazine to get it.
The International Quilt Festival Quilt Scene
Well, OK then.

I searched my stash and found the perfect prints for this one.
Prints by Jane Sassaman that I had ...

CHURNING TO BE FINISHED! from Kwilty Pleasures

I am not much on New Year's Resolutions but
my UFO project list continues to grow!
For instance...
This Churning Fourteen, needs to be finished1

The churn dash block is timeless, classic
AND my favorite block of all time!

I won a 16 FQ bundle of ‘Shine On’
by Sharon Holland Designs
It was not my ‘wheel house’ choice of fabrics
but any Art Gallery Fabrics, deserves a good look.
16 FQs and this Churning 14 pattern seems like a good fit.

I packed it all up and took the project to Ocean Isle Beach.
I was there for ...
